Walk tall naturally with purpose

‘Healthwalks Offer’ – new Autumn course in Brighton & Hove

Nordic walking is now recognised as beneficial to health and well-being throughout the lifespan as it effectively combines aerobic (heart & lung) exercise with muscle strengthening and balance activity (Public Health England 2018). Dorothy, 79, completed her course on 15 November saying: “Thank you a million for everything, you are an excellent tutor and a gentleman. I feel a different person.”

FIVE PLACES are available on this beginner course on Wednesdays with sessions running from 1.30 to 3pm on:

Session 1 – 21 October, Hove Park meeting at Hove Park Café
Session 2 – 28 October, Hove Park
Session 3 – 11 November, Hove Park
Session 4 – 18 November, Stanmer Park meeting at Stanmer House.

‘Healthwalks Offer’ courses are available at the discounted price of £40 per person (i.e. £10 per session) if all five places are booked, and are exclusively for those city residents wanting to Nordic walk on the free, green Healthwalks or to join the free amber/red Nordic Progression Walks run by the City Council’s Healthwalks Scheme. Poles are provided and the course is compliant with COVID-19 measures. If this doesn’t apply to you, standard Nordic Walking for Health beginner courses are also available – more information is at Courses. The discount is directly provided by Nordic Walking for Health for people keen to improve their health and well-being. No public subsidy is provided by the local authorities.

For all courses:
- bookings can be made by family groups, i.e. children aged 14 & over if accompanied by a parent or adult carer
- beginner courses to reach the ’green traffic light’ foundation level of Nordic walking technique consist, if fully booked, of four 1.5 hour sessions, all of which should be completed
- dates are rolled forward one week if more bookings are required to make a course viable to run, i.e. the start and finish dates move on a week
- Sessions 1 to 3 take place in Hove Park with Session 4 in Stanmer Park
- extra dates are used when a session is postponed due to the weather and/or if participants extend the course to learn the higher Health and/or Fitness levels of technique beyond foundation
- applicants need to be ‘walking-fit’ to get a place (a ‘readiness to participate’ questionnaire must be completed beforehand)
- full course payment is required before the first session and is non-refundable.

Feedback from a participant on a recent course: “… huge thank you for the Healthwalks Nordic Walking course, which I very much enjoyed and got a lot out of … your patience and support were much appreciated, along with all your advice on poles. … I will be out practising in the parks and on the seafront!” Louize, 50s – Summer 2017
